Need to repair a corrupted installation.

During the installation of IE6 an error occured that causes problems with
updates or re-installations. I cannot uninstall IE6 and all attempts to
re-install shown an error message indicating that the Installation is waiting
for a reboot to complete.

Even though hundreds of reboots have been done, the message remains.

How can I repair my installation of IE6?

Had you ever had IE6 installed and then reinstalled Windows without first
uninstalling IE6?
