NEED TO MOVE CONTACTS ONLY FROM ONE PROFILE TO ANOTHER

B

boyshanks

I am using Outlook 2007 in XP.

I have 2 profiles. One profile is named Biz 1 and the other Family. Biz 1
has a lot of contacts. I would like to transfer those contacts in Biz 1 to
be in my Family contact area.

I only need to transfer the contacts-- NOT the calendar, or emails, etc.

I did search the board for any answer but everything I read told me to
transfer a pst file which contains everything. I just need to transfer my
contacts nothing else.

How would I do that?

Thanks in advance.

Copy the pst file, as you have read, then ONLY copy the contacts from it to
the new profile.

Thank you Gordon. As you can see I have never done this.

If I understand you correctly, when I perform the function of importing or
exporting the pst file to the other profile, the system will somehow give me
a an opportunity to choose what I wish to import/export?

Thank you Gordon.

If I unerstand you correctly when I am performing the function of importing
or exporting the pst file, at some point I will be given an opportunity to
choose what I wish to import/export?

No. You don't use import/export at all. Are these two Outlook Profiles on
the same machine or on different ones?

SAME COMPUTER

I need to move contacts from Biz 1 to Family-- both profiles on the SAME
desktop computer-- OL 2007, XP.

(Sorry about the dupe post. I got an error that said it didn't post)

Thanks

Then it's easy. All you need to do is log on to Family and in Control
Panel-Mail-Data Files add the pst file that Biz 1 is using (you may need to
change permissions on that file first) to the profile. Open Outlook and copy
the contacts from the just-added Personal Folders file to the existing one.
Then in Control Panel-Mail-Data Files remove the pst file from the profile.
Sounds tricky, but it's really very easy.

Ooops I may have used the wrong terminology. I apologize in advance.

I didn't mean two different windows profiles, I was trying to say two
different OUTLOOK profiles/accounts.

I have two outlook accounts--- (e-mail address removed) and (e-mail address removed) all within
the same WINDOWS profile--- Fred (who is also the adminstrator). When I open
Outlook 2007, a drop down menu appears where I can choose which account I
want to open. I need to move contacts from biz1 to family.

I hope that clears up what I am trying to do.

Is there still a solution for what I need to accomplish?

Sorry for the confusion on my part.

That's OK - just do the same thing.

FOLLOW UP---

I have simulated your instructions but not fully completed them because I
have another question.

Remember, I only want the CONTACTS from Biz to go into Family. Will I
accomplish that using your method?

It would be horrible if I ended up with comingled email.

Thanks for your help.

Yes. Don't copy any email - just copy the Contacts. That's why you open the
file instead of importing. What you should see in Outlook in the folder pane
is TWO sets of personal folders. The top one is the one that is used by the
profile, the bottom one is the one you have added. Just copy the contacts
from the bottom one to the top one. No need to touch any emails at all.

Gordon, you're a patient man.

Never mind. I just figured it out. No comingled email or contacts.

When you add the pst file from another account it simply creates an
additional contact, mail, calendar or whatever folder.

Thanks again for your patience in this matter.

No bother. It can look a bit confusing the first time you do it....
