need to change read-only attribute when copying files

I am using Word 2003 and am trying to copy files to transfer to my office
computer that uses Word 2000. In doing, the attributes of the copied files
are "read-only" and I am trying to figure out how to change this attribute
during the copying process. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Dependant on the means of copying, this may not be possible. Select the
files after copying them to the hard drive and reset the file attribute
property to allow them to be written again.
