Need SYSTEM INFO fix

Joe

I am no longer able to view System Information using the icon that opens
msinfo32.exe.
It runs the program, but nothing is displayed.
Running it from the command line doesn't result in a display either.
I know the program works because I can launch it from a command line with
the switch that generates a NFO file.
I can then view the file.
I've done a repair install of XP and an install of msinfo32.
Thanks for listening.
Have a good day.

You may or may not be able to fix this. I can't fix mine.

It used to work but a Windows Critical Update screwed it up.
I don't know which CU is the culprit. Doesn't matter, it's screwed up.

This works. It's what I use.

Go here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read instructions at the top.
Scroll down to and Click on:
172. Msinfo32 Batch File - To Gain Access

Unzip and save it where ever | Create a shortcut | Place the shortcut in
your Start Menu, Desktop or where ever | Click the shortcut to open msinfo32
Saves typing it in the Start | Run box every time.

Also in case any of this may work for you.....

Go here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm

Click the "M" and scroll down to:
Can't Open Msinfo32
Read the info.

Wes, the only update that I have NOT installed is KB870669.

Help & Support and msinfo32 (run) or Start » All Programs » Accessories » System Tools » System Information are working for me. I don't know if uninstalling KB870669 will fix it or not, all you can do is try.

Howdy Jeff,

KB870669 isn't the one that broke msinfo32 for me. It's too new. Msinfo32
got broken when I had XP Home. It's broken on my Pro installation and I
installed Pro in February of this year.

I am of the opinion that with XP, Pro or Home, certain things will be
screwed up. It's a crap shoot for what will be messed up. :)

For example; with XP Home, formatted FAT32, I could not get rid of any
balloon tips. XP Pro; clean install, reformatted hard drive to NTFS and I
still can't get rid of the balloon tips. I just love the, "Click here to
begin"

I'm about to install SP2, I have it downloaded, we'll see. ;-)

Thanks, Wes
I've tried and retried most of these "fixes" before.
msinfo32 runs from the XP menu icon but there is no display
I get no error messages.
I have the same results selecting Help and Support.
It runs but there is no display or error messages.
All services seem to be running OK
I probably messed up the registry by using a cleaner.
But I really don't know for sure.
Everything else seen to work OK.

Joe,

Try this:
Start | Run | Paste this in the box:

msinfo32 /categories +all -loadedmodules

Click OK
Does System Info work now?

Thanks, Wes
The hard drive spins for a while but the screen view remains the same.
I get this same action whenever I select System Information.
There may be an answer out there somewhere.
Do you know of any good places to post a query?
Joe
