Need program more elaborate than Task Manager to log cpu utilization spikes

Wormwood

I'm experiencing cpu usage spikes that momentarily freeze up my system
just for a couple of seconds & I suspect it's a program I've got
running, but by the time I run Task Manager under Windows XP
Professional to examine exactly which app is causing the sharp cpu
utilization burst, the system has returned to normal. Is there a more
powerful program than Windows XP's Task Manager that will allow me to
see a detailed log or summation of programs running & how they've
recently pulled cycles from the cpu so I can isolate & troubleshoot
the culprit? Thanks.

You use Performance not Task Manager. Type it in help if you want to know more.
