need permission from administator

Hi All
Just trying to set up home network between 2 xp home
computers the first one fine, the second one says "MSHOME
is not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the administator of this
server to find out if you have access permission"
And when trying to share a folder I get "Error occured
while trying to share "FOLDER NAME" the sever service is
not started. The shared resource was not created at this
time"
I thought maybe that someyhing was wrong with windows so
I put in the disk and tried to repair windows, it asked
for an administrator password and I put in the one I use
to log on with (the only one I know)Windows says wrong
password and won't let me repair, this has statred to
worry me as I don't know what the password could be.
This is a compaq computer with a recovery disk not like a
normal windows disk if that makes a difference.
Thanking you in adfvance
Ken

Hey there, I am getting the same error. However, I have
not tried repairing wondows. It just says you don't have
permission at access this network resource. If you find
an answer, please let me know.

Hello,

If you did not install it or change anything after you got the system I
believe the password in "null" so just hit the enter key. {I do believe
however that when you first set it up for yourself it requested an
ADMINISTRATOR password to be entered.) However the "CD" you have is a
restore CD and it does not contain the full XP Home you will not be able to
do a repair function. You can however do a complete "RESTORE" of the system
back to what it was shipped with. You would then need to install SP1, and
any other patches for what you have on the system.
If the box is still under warranty call them and explain the problem. They
do have a CD that they can ship to you that will allow the "REPAIR" function
to work.

Good Luck,
Supertech

Hi Harry
This did not help me but it might work for you.

Step 1: Turn on NetBIOS over TCP/IP

Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Network
and Internet Connections.
Click Network Connections.
Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click
Properties.
Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click
Properties.
Click the General tab, and then click Advanced.
Click the WINS tab.
Under NetBIOS setting, click Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP,
and then click OK two times.
Click Close to close the Local Area Connection Properties
dialog box.
Close the Network Connections window.

Step 2: Start the Computer Browser service

Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click
Manage.
Double-click Services and Applications.
Double-click Services.
In the right pane, right-click Computer Browser, and then
click Start.
Close the Computer Management window.
