I need new PC speakers. Any suggestions?

Must be good quality, low price, and SoundMAX compatible.

Well, without a price range, usually the max of what you're willing to
pay, there's no point in discussion what speakers are best. Also,
despite reviews and ratings (which you should only use as a guide), you
really need to hear the speakers to judge for yourself what sounds best
to you. I've heard Altecs, Harmon, Creative, Bose, Klipsch, Labtec, and
Logitech. I wouldn't touch the Labtecs but for really cheap speakers
they aren't worse than any other. Bose and Klipsch are way too
expensive for me and only have a marginal better sound (again, to me).
I like the Altecs but only a couple models.

It depends on what you want the speakers for. I don't play rock 'n roll
on my computer and, in fact, don't play much music on my computer. I've
got a much better sound system nearby that what I could get for the
computer. If I played games with lots of repetitive explosions then I'd
be more interested in massive subwoofers (usually I end up with 2
subwoofers when running front and rear sets of speakers and that's
plenty for me). I play stealth games and crystal clarity and sharpness
are important to me.

I haven't mentioned any models simply because everyone that walks into
the store and listens to speakers ends up picking different brands and
models based on what THEY like best. In fact, where a system is almost
completely flat (i.e., provides near 100% faithful reproduction), it
seems most users don't care for that sound. They want a "color" of
sound that suits their taste.

Thanks for the info.
