Hi, I had these notes once on my pc-Can not find them & since I havent
needed to use it, cant remember how to.
1) how do I turn on my pc in safe mode-I remember F8 but how do I actually
do it & when(I need to kill a few viruses in this mode)
2) I know that my system restore is set to 'on' but Should I do a restore
point before I delete any malware. How do I do a system restore & be able to
check when I did my last one and any info system restore.
I beleive this is basic stuff and posted here because of that.Hope you can
help & in easy terms.

Safe Mode.......tap the F8 key right after the BIOS screen disappears while XP
is starting to load

System Restore.....Do not do a restore point until all malware is gone
click START....system restore.......restore to an
earlier time...next
at this point you should see a calender with all
the restore dates in bold.
Some virus can be in the restore points..what you
need to do is shut down restore and reboot
this will delete all restore points. Then get rid of
all malware/virus.Reboot and double check by scanning.
then turn Restore back on and create a restore point

Rusty you should be made aware that relying on System Restore to save you is
a very very bad idea. SR is affected by anything from defraging to chkdsk to
virus scans. Shut it off and use the ever safe and effective NT Backup found
in go>all programs>accessories>system tools> Backup. If you have the Home
Edition of XP then it is on the disk in valueadd\msft\ntbackup. Explore the
disk and then when you get to the ntbackup you double click the two little
computers icon and it will automatically install ntbackup to the above
mentioned location. Then use the scheduler to "append" files. (only makes
changes to files that have changes in them). NT Backup is unaffected by
anything accept a complete crash maybe. {]:~)
