Need Help With My HP PSC 950 AIO

Jethro

I am really stuck. My printer did not work fully - I couldn't get it
to scan. The printer will do a 'copy' standalone, so I know the
scanner works. I thought to uninstall it, then re-install it and used
Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs to get rid of all references to
it, but one entry (HP PSC 900 Series) stays there indicating it is
rarely used - I can't get rid of it. I downloaded b4p_enu_xp.exe to
do the re-install, but it won't do it because it says my printer is
already installed. I tried removing all references to this printer in
the Registry, but it didn't help.

So as I said I am really stuck - can anyone suggest something I can
try?

Thanks

Jethro

Is there an icon in the printers folder for this printer and if so when you
double click it is there a print job there?
If so at command line run

net stop spooler
net start spooler

in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers

remove all printers in this key, reinstall drivers.

The first thing I did as result of your post was to remove all
printers in the Registry where you stated. Then I tried reinstalling
my HP AIO using b4p_enu_xp.exe but I still get the same error - namely
that the AIO is already installed.

Even though I cannot scan with the AIO, I can print to it from the
computer and I can send a fax with it and I do standalone copies with
it. Just can't scan.

There is an icon in the printers folder for the AIO but there is no
print job there.

I'm almost out of ideas unfortunately.
I assume you don't have another scanner installed?
Have you uninstalled all of the USB controllers in device manager and let XP
re-instal them?
Also, long shot of course, you are direct connecting with the USB cable, and
not using a print server?
The HP website refers to a critical update for the driver, it looks like it has
nothing to do with the scanner but worth installing.
Sorry, some silly questions but just covering the bases.

No

No I'll try that.

Yes. it is LAN networked to a second machine which is out of the
picture. Can't scan over the LAN anyway - never could. Just print.

I saw it - did not download/install it - but what the H---.

Not silly, and thanks.

It is just amazing that I have removed everything I can find
referencing HP in Registry and elsewhere, and HP still thinks it is
already installed. Must be telepathy.

So the printer is directly connected via USB and the other pc is networked,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/873188 just might be relevant with respect to
the network.
You might get some help from the microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax
newsgroup, some excellent talent there. If you do I will see it and look
forward to seeing someone fix the problem for you.
Good luck

I think the network aspect is okay - It is only the scanning part of
things that doesn't work, and that never worked over the network
anyway. I could always connect the printer to the other machine (on
its USB) and set it up there as the network printer, and hopefully
scan on that machine. I had it that way once a while back.
I don't really want to do that because I wanted all my printers
connected directly to the same machine.

Will do. You'll see me there this AM,

Thanks
