Need help with DNS settings in 2k server

I came into a company with 2000 Server and AD running
under <domain>.com

Now i have upgraded all users to 2000 professional and
when i try to go out our website(hosted by another company
with our domain name, which is the same as the AD name),
it looks internally only and will not go to the site
unless you go to it via it's external IP address.

Is there was way to add something into DNS that would
automatically forward www.domain.com to the name rather
than with the IP? I have been working on this for a week
and haven't come up with a conclusion. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

This is quite simple to fix. You need to create an A (Host) record of www in
the forward lookup zone in DNS that resolves to the sites external IP
address.

That worked for the webpage, one more question for you
though. We have an external email host as well which when
viewed in a webpage needs to his
http://mail.domain.com:8383 is there a way to set up
the "A" list with the port number like above? Again thank
you for your help.

DNS doesn't know or care about port numbers, it just does name resolution.
What you should do here is create an A record called mail in your DNS zone
that resolves to the external IP, just like you did for www. To get the
correct port number you have a couple of options; either tell users to add
the :8383 tag when connecting to the site or put a redirection on the
webserver that redirects port 80 to port 8383. Or both!
If this is a webmail page you should really be using https
