Need help with CD-ROM access

I am using XP pro service pack 2, new Dell latitude laptop. Here's the
problem. In windows explorer, whenever I click on the cd drive it clicks off
of it and highlights the c: drive. If I open My Computer and double click on
the D: drive nothing happens. If I right click and chose explore it opens
another window showing what's on the desktop. Here's the bigger problem. It
only happens on one profile. If I login as someone else the CD drive works
fine. If I delete the profile and login as the user again to recreate the
profile the drive works again, but after a few days it goes back to not
working again. I currently have two users with this problem. Does anyone
have any sugguestions?

What type of privileges are set for the said profile?
Are CD options disabled or tweaked?

Profile has admin. access.
I don't believe CD options are disabled. I know they are not tweaked.
