need help with application fonts

whenever I open certain applications, the font size in those applications is too big, and sometimes won't be displayed because of this..... for example.... when i open up winmx, the font size is too big hence making it impossible to read anything on the buttons. The same problem exist with multiple programs including my webcam program.... luckily, basic folder windows are not affected. Unfortunatly, i have been unable to fix this problem although i have tried everything from changing font sizes in display panel..... hope you can help, thanks in advance

Right click the Desktop | Properties | Settings tab |
Advanced button | General tab | DPI setting

On the Appearance tab, in Font size, click a new font size.
