need help to repair

I had winME on drive C: and I added a second drive and then installed
win2k on the the first partition (ntfs) of drive d: thinking that it
would recognize WinME on C: and show a dual boot. When I booted up there
was only win2k. So I looked around the internet and somewhere it said to
add the following to boot.ini: C:\="Windows". So I did. When I select
the option "Windows", I get the following error:

Error:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\BOOTSEC.DOS

And it hangs. So I am stuck.

Any ideas?

1. Make a WinME Startup Disk.
2. Copy sys.com to this disk.
3. Get a copy of bootpart.exe from
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/gvollant/bootpart.htm
4. Boot your machine with the startup disk.
5. Type this command:
sys c:
This will restore the WinME boot capability.
6. Type this command:
bootpart Win95 c:\WinME.sys "Windows ME"
This will create a WinME boot sector file. It will also
include WinME as a startup option in your Win2000
boot selector menu.
7. Type this command:
bootpart WinNT boot:c:
This will restore the Win2000 boot sector (which you
destroyed in Step 4 above).

By the way, if you make your subject line a little more
specific then you are likely to attract far more replies.
"Need help to repair" does not mean all that much.

Here is the problem: I can't make a bootup disk because I can't boot
the thing into ME. In other words I can't get to "Control
Panel-Add/Remove Programs-Startup Disk". So if there were a way to do
it with the cd rom only but it doesn't give any options. I tried
booting from cd with cd-rom support to the command line but setup
doesn't give any options other than to reinstall it. At this point I
suppose that the only other option is to reinstall ME? NOW THEN, I
HAVE AN OLD WIN98SE BOOT DISK. PERHAPS I COULD USE THAT?

To make a long story short, Pegasus, I was in a hurry to get this back
to my friend who was going through computer withdrawl so I just used the
win98se boot floppy and followed your directions. It was a complete
success and I can't thank you enough. And I understand the need for
making subject lines concise! Thank you again!
