Need help to find old Media player in Win XP plz

Hi all,

Well, a few weeks ago I finally took the plunge and install Windows XP
(professional). I've always preferred the old media player 6.4 to the newer
ones though so associated all my vid files with that. However after
installing PowerDVD ver6 a few days ago, any sign of the app file for MP 6.4
has disappeared. The program is still there cause it auto starts with .avi
files, but powerdvd apparently overwrote the file associations for .mpg
files. I decided i didn't like powerdvd and uninstalled it. Now though, all
my mpg files have defaulted back to opening with the new WMP and I can't
find the old 6.4 program file to re associate with mpg files.

Anyone know what this is all about and a solution, please??

Many thanks
Bubba

Use Windows FIND tool to locate mplayer2.exe

I found my version this way: Type "wmplayer" (no quotation marks) in Search.
Also look in C/Program Files folder for any folders referring to Media
Player.

Hi again,

I've tried using the windows search tools n' stuff to find MP 6.4 but the
actual program file seems to have disappeared, presumably overwritten or
altered somehow by the powerdvd installation. I still have wmplayer.exe but
that the new bloated version of media player, not the older one :S

And as i said, i have SEARCHED FOR mplayer2.exe and it's disappeared. I've
lloked in the programfiles\windows media player folder but it's not there.
Any other ideas??

Oh? And where exactly did you say that?
I said search for mplayer2, not 6.4 as you previously implied!

Oddly enough, if you go to the Microsoft Downloads page and search for media
player, you can d'load it there.
Now that was logical, wasn't it.
