need help to disable wireless zero configuration

Hi. I inherited my husband's XP laptop and am trying to use it in my
office or anywhere else in the house with a new wireless adapter. I
installed it using the CD that came with it. The instructions say that
you have to disable automatic wireless configuration in XP. When I went
to control panel -> network -> there was no tab about wireless. So then
I found out you have to be logged on as an administrator to change
wireless permissions. Ok. So I went to -> users and Jeff shows up as an
administrator. Ok. (background: I recently had to use the restore disks
to completely reformat the computer. I know there is no password for the
administrator) So it appears that I *AM* logged in as administrator.

So this is where I'm stuck. How to disable wireless zero configuration?

Appreciate any help. Thanks!

Hi Erika,

See if the information in the "Drivers that do not support the Wireless Zero
Configuration service" section of this MSKB article helps you to resolve the
problem:

How to troubleshoot wireless network connections in Windows XP

*In Step#5, it says to type devmgmt.msc (which opens Device Manager) in the
Open box, but then Step#6 continues on as if you are in the Computer
Management console. Type in compmgmt.msc instead of devmgmt.msc
Alternatively, you could type in services.msc to directly open the Services
console.

Hi, Adrian. Yes, this was clear and simple and easy to do. Then I
reinstalled the adapter from the CD and it went through all by itself.
Thanks very much!
