need help re: usbscan

I am trying to install lexmark x83 driver onto a new laptop...keep
getting message "please install usbscan.sys file before proceeding" I
cannot find this file anywhere...not even on the windows xp software
that came with the computer...very frustrating...anyone have
suggestions?

You should be able to find it on the XP CD as usbscan.sy_.

After you find it, copy the file locally to your ..\windows\system32\drivers
directory. Then, from the RUN dialog, type in cmd and press enter. From DOS
(the command window), navigate to the ..\windows\system32\drivers directory.
once there, type "expand -r usbscan.sy_ usbscan.sys"

(Why the file isn't on your laptop is a mystery as it should already be
there.)
