Need help!!! Missing mail applet in control panel

G

Guest

I'm using WinXP Home Edition, and my mail applet is missing from my control
panel. (no, it's not hidden by tweakUI) can someone please help???

no... I've already tried that... I've been looking into this problem for
several hours. Microsoft won't help me, since it's an OEM version of
windows, and Sony can't help because I don't have an error message...and send
me right back to Microsoft. ANY help outside the "use tweakUI" usual would
be AWESOME!
Thanks, null2006 for trying to help out, though!

What Mail applet?

Windows XP does not have any mail applets.

Would have to be a 3rd party deal.

Windows 95, 98 and Millennium had Wgpocpl.cpl, Microsoft Mail Post Office.
XP does not.

Okay, maybe "applet" was the wrong term. The icon called "Mail" in control
panel. It's on all the other computers here, except the one I really need it
to be on...

What mail program are you referring to?

What Mail icon?

Windows XP does not have any mail icon in the Control Panel.

Would have to be a 3rd party deal.

Windows 95, 98 and Millennium had Wgpocpl.cpl, Microsoft Mail Post Office.
XP does not.

Do a Search for *.cpl on your machine.

*.cpl files are Control Panel extensions, they show up in the Control Panel.

You may not have all of these and you may have some not listed here. This
is a list from my machine.

Control Panel cpl's:

control main.cpl,keyboard or control keyboard = Keyboard Properties
access.cpl = Accessibility Options
appwiz.cpl = Add or Remove Programs
desk.cpl = Desktop Control Panel = Display Properties
hdwwiz.cpl = Add Hardware Control Panel Applet
inetcpl.cpl = Internet Control Panel = Internet Properties
intl.cpl = Regional and Language Options
irprops.cpl = Wireless Link Control Panel Applet
joy.cpl = Game Controllers
jpicpl32.cpl = JavaPlugin
main.cpl = Mouse Properties
mmsys.cpl = Sounds and Audio Device Properties
ncpa.cpl = Network Connections Control-Panel Stub
nusrmgr.cpl = Windows User Manager = Users Accounts
nvtuicpl.cpl = NVIDIA nView Control Panel, Version 52.16
nwc.cpl = Client Service for NetWare Applet
odbccp32.cpl = Microsoft Data Access - ODBC Control Panel
plotman.cpl = Autodesk Hardcopy Plotter Manager
powercfg.cpl = Power Management Configuration Control Panel Applet or Power
Options Properties
SanCpl.cpl = SiSoftware Sandra™ English Control Panel Extension (Win32
x86)(NT)(ANSI)
sapi.cpl = SAPI 5 = Speech Properties
styleman.cpl = Autodesk Hardcopy Plot Style Manager
sysdm.cpl = System Properties
telephon.cpl = Telephony Control Panel
timedate.cpl = Time Date Control Panel Applet
wscui.cpl = SP2 Windows Security Center (SP2)

I have the icon but it's because I have Office XP and it has to do with
Microsoft Outlook.

That ICON is placed in the control panel by Microsoft Outlook.
Microsoft Outlook is in MSoffice not in Windows XP.
Reinstall your Microsoft Office programs and your Icon will come back.

Ricky,

Do you know the file name for the Outlook Mail icon?

I'm using the Office beta and the file name is mlcfg32.cpl. It has something
to do with Outlook profiles.

Thank you, Ricky.

According to Microsoft, mlcfg32.cpl = Microsoft Mail Configuration Library.

As near as I can find, seems to be for Outlook 97, 2000 and 2002. I did
find a couple of references in newsgroup posts to Outlook 2003 and
mlcfg32.cpl.
