Need help matching video card with monitor

I'm not sure if this is the right group to ask this question. If not, would
appreciate directions to a more appropriate one.

I recently switched from a CRT monitor with an aspect ration of 4:3 to an LCD
monitor with aspect ratio of 5:3.

The screen resolutions available on my video card with aspect ratios of 5:3 are:

960x600
1280x800
1440x900

I want to use the 960x600, but the text in this resolution is rendered quite
sloppily. The text in the other two resolutions is rendered quite neat, but small.

The monitor is Viewsonic VG1930WM

The video card is Nvidia GeForce4 440 with AGP8X.

Would in benefit from a video card upgrade for a resloution in the neighborhood of
960x600?

Thanks,
Jack

The native resolution for that monitor is 1440x900 and this is the
resolution it should be driven at. Any other resolution will produce a less
than ideal display. A video card upgrade is unlikely to change things as
that resolution is supported by your current card. Have you tried changing
the size of text displayed?

That's not a surprise. Every LCD monitor is built with a particular
resolution that it should be run with. Yours is 1440x900. If you run
with any other resolution, the quality of the image will be relatively
poor.

The text in the other two resolutions is rendered quite neat, but small.

The size of the text can generally be adjusted. A Windows standard is
that the text size in most applications can be adjusted by holding
down the Ctrl key and scrolling the mouse wheel.

The monitor is Viewsonic VG1930WM

No. You should definitely *not* run this monitor at that resolution.
The results will always be poor.
