Need help intalling Windows XP

I am trying to install a complete version of windows xp (not an upgrade) on
my computer which has no operating system. My computer failed me due to a
virus, where everything was erased. I had a computer technician clean the
virus off and I told him that I would install the operating sysem. And
that's where my problem starts. When I boot up my computer, DOS comes up.
There is a message that says "The following file is missing or corrupted:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD Type the name of the Windows loader (e.g.,
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD) C>"
I'm unable to even run the windows xp cd. Can you help me get a running
start at this? Please..... Thank you!

Just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot order if
necessary to accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean
installation (delete the existing partition by pressing "D" when
prompted, then create a new one).

You can find detailed instructions here:

Hi,

Your computer is booting the hard drive rather than the CD, you need to
change this in the boot order of the system BIOS. When it sees the hard
drive, it is loading the remnants of a Win9x installation (which point to
files that are no longer there).

Very strange. These are not Windows XP Files.Rather they are related to
Windows 95/98 or ME.
