incoming e-mail server type and outgoing e-mail server how do i find this

Who do your get your internet service from? It is no Microsoft.com unless you are an employee there.
Your Internet service provider (ISP) will have that information.

Who provides your email service? Or to ask that question another way,
what is the part of your email address after the @ symbol?
Your mail provider will typically have a web page that shows how to
set up an email program. If you need more help, tell us the name of
your email service provider. If you currently don't have an email address,
we can help with that also.

US based free Yahoo accounts have webmail access only, and will not work in
Windows Mail.

You can pay Yahoo for their Mail Plus service:

Settings:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

Other free email providers offer POP access, such as gmail, Live or Hotmail.

Or you simply continue to use Yahoo's webmail: http://mail.yahoo.com

I see you posted with a Yahoo email address. Is that your only email address?
US-based free Yahoo accounts have webmail access
only, no POP access. Windows Mail handles POP mail but not Yahoo webmail.
Yahoo's solution is to pay them for premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/overview/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

If you are OK with using a non-Yahoo email address, you have these other
solutions that will work with Windows Mail:
* Use the email address assigned to you by your ISP.
* Use a free Gmail, AOL, or Hotmail/Live account.

You can also continue to use Yahoo's webmail: http://mail.yahoo.com
If you need more help with any of these solutions, just ask.

Miss T. Please start your own post, do not highjack onto someone else's post.
Your problem is not the same as Carrie's.

If you are in the USA and use the Free Yahoo, you cannot setup Windows Mail to view your email.
Free Yahoo does not support POP mail.

Carrie: You get your email server information from your ISP.
Since you did not say who is your ISP, we cannot help.
Either contact your ISP's technical support to tell us who your ISP is and we will see if we can find your your server addresses.
