Need help configurig outlook 2003 client for use wiht exchange server using outlook web access

Dr Q

Hello,

Here is my problem. I am trying to configure Outlook 2003 to access an
exchange server. The IT person gave me the following information.

server: https://email.domain.com/exchange
user name: XXXX\xxxxx

I entered these two as given to me in the exchange server settings.
However when i try to connect or check names I get an error message
saying outlook could not log on.

I also am not asked for my password or given a place to enter the
password.

Before you tell me that it can not be done, I have used the server and
user name above to connect and access the exchange server wiht
Microsoft Entourage 2004 on my Macintosh. So it can be done but so far
not wiht Outlook 2003.

I assume I have missed something. I even checked the 'more settings"
and could not see anything obvious.

If you can shed some light on how to properly configure Outlook 203, I
would appreciate it.

Outlook 2003 has nothing to do with Outlook Web Access. OWA is a function of Exchange server.

What are you trying to do? Connect Outlook 2003 to an Exchange box? That process is entirely different than using OWA which uses your browser to connect to Exchange over the web.

Post back on which access you are trying to configure and someone can help you.

(BTW - the OWA logon should have https://email.domain.com/exchange/mailbox which will bring up the logon prompts)

Ok. Then ignore the part about OWA. I am trying to connect to an
exhchange server wiht the information provided in my initial message.

That information will not help you at all connecting to Exchange - that is for OWA. You will need the name of your Exchange server (example = exo1.domain.com) and your logon credentials. The Exchange name does not start with HTTPS.

Hmmm. ok. let me try asking this a different way.

Let's say that I have access via OWA. Can I configure Outlook 2003 to
be my "front end" access like I can wiht Microsoft Entourage on the
Macintosh? I assume this would function in manner analagous to using
Outlook 2003 to access hotmail and MSN accounts (for those who were
allowed to do so because they were accessing those accounts prior to
the MSN change in policy).

Or is this feature beyond Outlook 2003 capabilities?

Dr Q

Well I learned from the Entourage google group that Entoruage supports
WebDAV connections which is how I am able to use Entourage to access
the server with just my OWA address.

So far it seems that Outlook does not support WebDAV so I may be out of
luck. I will be working wiht my IT folks to find an outlook solution
that likely will involve a VPN connection or RPC over HTTP. If you have
any other suggestions for utilizing the WebDAV connection, I am all
ears.
