I am re-posting with all the info.
Hi Peter,
Correct.
I had started a repair install to fix issues I was having with Windows.
Windows was running but Iexplorer could not access the internet.
The original repair install failed. So I tried again but the Install cannot
see the original Windows install. So I tried the repair console(recovery
console?)which does see the Windows directory, but does not ask for the
password.
Since then I have done a complete parallel install. The files look ok on the
original Windows, but obviously something is wrong. If I try to let the
original repair install run it crashes, putting up a blue screen the
disappears before I can read it. Windows was updated to SP2 and several
other updates were done. This in on a Toshiba laptop, with XP pro. I used my
CD from my laptop as the Toshiba did not have a Windows XP CD.
My CD has SP 2 already on it. There could be a driver conflict but I cannot
get into the Original system to uninstall the drivers. The parallel install
went as expected and runs well.
Thanks
Loretta
