need clarification of 'boot partition'

Vic

Read an article which stated MS recommends at least a small pagefile on
the boot partition. My system is setup as follows:

C: boot manager only (tri-boot) - 510mb
J: 500mb swapfile (pagefile.sys) - 110G
W: Windows XP installed - 80G

Do I need a small swapfile on C: or W:??

Thanks

According to the Microsoft article, "The system partition refers to the
disk volume that contains the hardware-specific files that are needed to
start Windows, such as Ntldr, Boot.ini, and Ntdetect.com. The system
partition can be, but does not have to be, the same volume as the boot
partition."

The boot partition according to MS contains the Windows folder.
In your case that would be W.

Ron is right: The terms "boot partition" and "system partition" are
counter-intuitive. In Microsoft-speak, the boot partition is where the
operating system resides, and the system partition is where the
boot files reside. At one time, it made sense, but now.... :-(
