Need advice on what to match with my ASUS A8N-SLI MB

Need some advice on what type of AMD dual core CPU and memory to go with
my motherboard. I am not a gamer. This will be primarily used for website
design, citrix applications and related business stuff.

Any additional suggestions on what type of display adapter (include
make/model) to go along with it. I am using dual monitors currently so this
is a must. My 19" LCD's are not DVI ready so connections must be DSUB.

Thanks for the help!

Anyone out there that could answer this question? Or is this a dead
group?

Make sure you have updated your BIOS to the latest version before putting in
a dual core CPU. Any Socket 939 dual core should work on this board.

As for memory I would go with 2 x 1GB modules of CAS2.

Since you are only doing 2D video, any good dual head video card should
work. Even if the video card only has DVI ports, the good ones will always
include DVI-to-D-SUB adapters.

I am using the Athlon 64 4400+ with 1 gig of OCZ Gold Dual Channel
memory.(2x512 strips)2.2.2.5 settings at 3.0 volts.

You could use any of the x2 athlons depending on how much $ you want to
spend.

Thank you to both of you. I am prepared to spend in the mid $300's for the
processor and whatever it takes on the 2gb of memory.

Updating the BIOS prior to getting the processor could be kinda tricky since
I have no AMD processors laying around. This will be my first dive into the
AMD world.

Thanks again...

My A8N-SLI Premium came with bios 1006 and I didn't have to do the bios
upgrade to accept the 4400+. I've had mine for just about 3 months and I
love it - real fast and stable.

If you don't already have the A8N-SLI, don't worry about the BIOS
version. The board that my brother bought about ten days ago, came
from Newegg with the latest non-beta BIOS that's available--in other
words, fully capable of supporting any Athlon 64 X2. In selecting the
processor, the "sweet spot" is at the "knee" of the price/performance
curve. As of this date, that spot is occupied by the X2 4200+ or
4400+, but I don't think you can get one for the $300 you mention. You
might want to think about upping the amount you're willing to spend on
the CPU. For your purposes (no gaming and no overclocking), I really
don't think you need the speediest RAM available. I think that
Corsair ValueSelect PC3200 DRAM would work just fine, and you might
save enough on that to pay a little more for the CPU.
Thanks again...

Since you have the motherboard, there is a BIOS on it.

The latest BIOS can be found on the Asus web pages.

Thanks again. I bought the board directly from D&H (ahh the wonders of a
resale cert) about 2 weeks ago so it sounds like I am in good shape then.

The processor will come from Newegg as I cannot save any money by going
through D&H for that.

You are correct. There is no way for me to touch a 4200 or 4400 for that
price...may just have to save a little longer for it....waited this long
another
two or three weeks won't kill me (although it may feel like it).
