Need a box just for office apps

I need to build a box to use for work and I'm
looking for suggestions on the lowest cost solution.

Should I build it myself or buy pre-built??

I will be running Quickbooks, Office, and apps like that.
So I don't need a high end vid card or anything like that.
But at the same time, I'd like my apps to run fast, so I don't
want to just get a used 1 gig machine.


Any suggestions???

If you can hack it, you could always buy a cheap hp sempron 3400 with
512mb of ram and a 17-inch crt for $400 after staples rebates. I'm
darn tempted to do that for my wife instead of spending $200 to
upgrade her to an xp2200.

FWIW,
I bought a new system just befor Thanksgiving from Dell with the intent that
it would be used at work for tyicall Office tasks. Didn't care about fancy
video or audio, already had a copy of Office and a monitor.

I ended up going with a Dell E510
3.0Ghz
1gig ram
80gig HD
Floppy
integrated video
integrated audio
integrated NIC
modem (i think they give one to evrybody)
CD-burner/DVD reader combo drive
XP MCE 2005
etc, etc...

with tax and shipping it came to about $710.00

watch the various sites like dealcatcher.com for good deals....

You might want to look into Thin Clients. They are a basic setup of a PC,
some companies use Thin Clients to bring down costs.
