Navigation bar in Front page 2000

Could someone help me - I've put a shared border on my homepage which works
across all the pages. But when I try to insert a navigation bar on the
homepage - Child Pages Under Home, all I get is a horizontal stream of all
the links in one long line. I basically just want a naviagion bar on the
left hand side, in the form of text, which says Home and then all the child
pages links (there are only two levels) on every page.

In properties for the navbar set it to display the way you want.

I have selected vertical, and text so I don't understand why it's horizontal.
