Nav Pane Shortcuts Disappear

I am using Office 2008, Outlook 2007, Exchange Server. All of a sudden, all
my shortcuts in the Nav Pane have disappeared and i had to spend a great deal
of time re-creating them. Why does this happen and is there any way to
restore the shortcuts when they disappear?

You mean Office 2007? ;-)
Sounds like your xml-file holding the Navigation Pane settings got
corrupted.
You can make a backup of this file and when it happens again, you could try
a restore of it;
On Vista, it's located in;
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Outlook
