NAV 2003 and XP SP2

This is somewhat off-topic I realize, but I thought some people might
find it useful for future reference. I'm using a PC running XP Home SP1 and
Norton AV 2003. I emailed Symantec recently and asked if the upcoming XP
SP2 would be compatible with NAV 2003, and today I got this disappointing
response:

<<be aware that Norton AntiVirus (NAV)2003 is not compatible with Windows XP
Service Pack 2. If you want to use Service Pack 2 you should upgrade your
NAV to NAV 2004. NAV 2004 is compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 2.>>

Meaning: Symatec wrote NAV2003 taking shortcuts using vulnerabilities in
WindowsXP. Now that they have a newer product available, they are not going
to fix the older one that is taking advantage of holes in the code that are
being patched by the SP2, and that they knew about and took advantage of
themselves.

IMO Norton is too obtrusive anyway. I removed it from my system a long time
ago and replaced it with the free version of AVG (version 6) from Grissoft,
which I keep updated and run frequently. Will it be compatible with XP SP2?
I'll find out. In the meantime my AV software cost is zero.

Wise decision.
