N VIDIA driver update

R

Ron Lamontagne

I have Windows EX home. I recently checked the driver
updates and the site suggested to update N VIDIA driver.

It installed N View. Since then all of the windows and
programs that I run appear large on the monitor.

Everthing takes up more space and I can't figure out how
to change or delete it.

Any thoughts??

You should probably increase the resolution of the monitor. To do this right
click on an empty part of your desktop then select "properties" (left click
to select). The "Display Properties" window should open. Go to the
"Settings" tab. On the left you should se a slider with "Screen resolution"
on top. Drag the slider towards the "More" end and you will notice that the
resolution will increase. Now hit the "apply" button. If you are happy with
the new settings just press "OK" and you are ready. Otherwise change the
resolution again.
If after changing the resolution you notice a flickering in the screen then
you have also to change the refresh rate. To do so as you are in the
"Display properties" hit the "Advanced" button, go to the "Monitor" tab and
under "Screen refresh rate" make sure that a number at least as high as 85
Hertz is shown. If not , use the drop down menu (the down-arrow in the
right) and change it. Hit again apply and if everything fine "OK". If all
the numbers shown are lower than 85 it means that your monitor does not
support 85 Hertz refresh rate in the given resolution and in order to work
comfortable, I will sugest to lower the monitor resolution (as shown before)
and then try to set the refresh rate agin at 85 or above Hertz.

I foolishly did the same thing and installed the Nvidea
update. I had no major monitor problems but it messed up a
lot of settings and would reset the manual fixes I
laboriously applied when I restarted the pooter,
specifically it would not let me change to my preferred
desktop icons as I posted elsewhere in this ng. It also
reset the screen background colour to full on white not
the slightly less glaring white I had customised it to. I
suppose the obvious fix is to use the old driver and
upgrade the card to something that isn't N Videa later.
Who writes the updates for these things anyway, microsoft?
