Mysterious XP reboot on login screen

I have ‘upgraded' an old Acer Travelmate laptop (354) with work
software. This is what I have done:

1) Installed Sygate Firewall
2) Installed KasperSky anti-virus
3) XP was upgraded to SP2

Suddenly, the laptop has developed some disturbing behaviour. I get to
the XP login screen. If I don't do anything, it reboots the machine.
If I quickly login, it seems to pull through as if nothing was wrong.
I am pretty sure I had this behaviour before putting SP2 on. Also, I
have uninstalled Kerio Winroute Firewall before installing all my
software.
I have no info as to what the error is. I have tried disabling the
auto-restart after an error, to no avail.
I am at a loss what could be initiated when I don't login straight
away that would cause the problem? Or could it be that the same piece
of code is happier if the desktop is already loaded?

Thanks in advance.

I have 4 Errors in my Logs:

2) AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port

3) The Rll enhanced drive service failed to start due to the following
error:

4) The NETGEAR ME102 Access Point service failed to start due to the
following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or
because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

First 2 seems to be an old BIOS creating the problem, but I think
those errors might have happened since I had XP on this machine,
without creating the restarts. Rll I have no clue. The NETGEAR one
puzzles me. I have uninstalled anything that is Netgear on my HD, I
cannot see a Netgear service in Services, I have searched the Registry
to no avail... Don;t know where it gets that from, but maybe it is
generating the STOP condition triggering the reboot?

Thanks for your help

Well, about the first two. I think you're right about the old BIOS. I
would update it just to get rid of that issue and rule that out.

About the RLL enhanced drive. I'm clueless. Maybe some internet/google
searches will help enlighten you.

I don't know how the netgear service could be causing it, but if you still
have the Access Point you might want to try reinstalling it again and then
cleanly uninstalling it.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Maybe some other guru out there can shed
some light?
