mysterious code in design page

I created a new page attached to my website in order to test out wingding
fonts and find a copyright symbol. I used following keys: - = [ ] ; ' / . ,
and also used them with the shift key down. At that point, code in yellow
boxes showed up that said <body>, <b> , <a> , and <p> . I was in design
mode. I deleted the page, yet couldn't get rid of the two <body> tags that
showed up on the blank page. When I went to other website pages, they were
filled with these boxes everywhere. How do I get rid of them. I'm in design
mode, and when I delete them, my fonts are altered. They are everywhere on
every page. Even when I didn't save the pages. Two <body> codes even show
up on new pages. How do I not hurt my website but still get rid of these
codes that show up on design page and all over the website.

The "reveal tags" are also toggled using Ctrl+/ , possibly hit when
you meant Shift+/.
