mysterious ajax

hey all,
i have an update panel with a simple textbox in it.
outside i have a server-side button.
i put a trigger on the update panel for the button click event.
(it just places "Hello World" in textbox)

works great.

however,
if i drag an html button on to the form, run the web app, click server-side
button i get "Unknown Error"

any ideas?

oh i forgot something:
double-click the html button to create an empty client-side handler. that's
it.
