My XP CD doesn't work

D

Derrick

I put the XP CD in the cd-rom, and
I see a reference asking if you need to load special
drivers and another notice that if youwish to begin the
ASR (Automatic Recovery Console) depress F2. I just let
setup run past all of that. But It didn't continue to a
screen with the option to (1) setup Windows or (2) Repair
Windows Installation using the Recovery console.

Now, what could I do??
Please help/.\

If you want to use the Recovery Console, that is the first offer to Repair.
(By the way, ASR is Automatic System Restore, not Automatic Recovery
Console).

The second option to repair comes later. When you get to that final point
where you select where to setup Windows and do not see a Repair option,
that means the existing setup is too damaged to be fixed.

A good strategy at this point is to perform a parallel install - a second
Windows folder. Use that setup to grab data off of the hard drive and move
it somewhere else. When that is finished, scrap your existing setup and
start over from scratch: install Windows, install drivers and updates,
install programs, restore data.
