My XP beeps

My XP beeps often. Always one internal speaker beep.
Happens with multiple software: Word, Photo Viewer, IE, etc.
Is there a place I can find a log of the reason for the beep?
Or is there a way to find why it beeps.
I use XP Pro SP2.
My Pc does NOT beep during startup.

It drives me crazy. Please HELP

Thanks
Ron

I know about these beepp codes.
My computer beeps only once, and it is during normal work, not at boot time.

Check the sounds and audio in the control panel applet, your sound scheme,
and see if you have something set to a system beep? Does it play regular
music files out of the system speaker as well? If so look in the default
playback device section of the afore mentioned control panel applet under
the audio tab.

Maybe it's overheating, and you're getting a beep from the motherboard?

Open it up and make sure no dustbunnies are clogging things.

Thanks for all the advice.

I have found the problem.
My keyboard was bad.

It was working fine, just beeping.
Than Word gave me a message about the CTRL key stuck.
After that, when I typed it sometimes put double-letter on the screen.
I went and bought a new keyboard and the beeping stopped.

I wish there was an error message on the screen about the problematic
keyboard, instead of the beeps.

Thanks again
Ron
