My Windows Firewall Stopped working

My Windows Firewall Stopped working and I am unable to restart it.

The event log shows the following errors:

Event ID: 7023
The Network Connections service terminated with the following error:
Network Connections is not a valid Win32 application.

Event ID: 7001
The Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service depends on
the Network Connections service which failed to start because of the
following error:
Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is not a valid Win32
application.

The Help and Support Center have no information on these events

Any ideas?

I have found additional information. It seems as though the service "Network
Connections" is what is not functioning. Can anyone tell me what driver is
involved with this service? Can I fix this without repairing Windows? I
sure hope so as I am pressed for time.

Hi .
Before the other suggestions ,did you try System Restore in Windows XP.
It will restore your System to a previous state exactly as it was before.I
am not sure but it could help .Doesn't hurt to try.

Start-Programs-Accessories-System Tools-System Restore

and choose a restore point 3 days before the problems started.


You may also have malware on your system so I think you should check your
PC for malware and clean if any

Now you could try running the System File Checker (sfc.exe),
This will scan all protected Windows files to verify their versions have not
been overwritten or damaged,
and if so will replace the compromised version with a fresh copy.

To run it, click Start->Run and type
sfc.exe /scannow


You should keep handy your Windows CD(RepairCD) that you received when you
bought your Windows because you'll need it in case a file has been damaged.
