I have a laptop. Spec: Celeron M Processor running at 1.5 Ghz with 512mb RAM
and 60Gb HDD and DVD R+ drive. Running under Windows XP Home and running very
very slow.

Question : Why and how can one rectify it (without purchasing RAM)

Regards

When was the last time you did a little house cleaning? Like DiskCleanup?
Deleting Cookies, and Temp files? Stop apps from loading at startup?
Start>Run>type MSCONFIG and click OK>Startup tab
Now uncheck/disable all except your anti-virus app>Apply>Close>reboot
The above are just a few to start with.

In addition to tips from Byte, check for adware/spyware. This is the cause
of most 'once-fast-but-now-slow' PCs out there.

Richie, don't forget to "Defrag" your Hard drive. You could have some errant
sectors that need regrouping.
