My Outlook is downloading emails SLOW in B

I just purchased a new HP laptop with Vista, I installed my Office 2003
Small business management software and everything works great EXCEPT Outlook,
My messages download in Bytes and Not even KB. What do I do? it takes hours
to get my email. Whats happeneing here? Can SOmeone please help...
