My Outlook is compromised and being Used to Send SPAM

W

Wolfgang

I am wondering that this issue is not solved for years now.

It's know since Outlook 2003 (as I know).

Our managers are anxious about this as Outlook 2007 is still sending "Not
read"-replies to senders.

Interesting fact: if they delete messages from 2002, 2003 or whatever, those
"Not read"-replies are send to perhaps hundrets of people.

Brian & Diane, would you like to retract any statements here? I believe a few
of your comments to be misguided. And as for the server generating responses
to read-receipts [not delivery receipts]; I'm sure it's the client; send me a
debug/logging version of outlook and I'd be happy to prove it to you.

Here is how I know it's the client:
My problem is that the messages sent out where addressed as 'from
(e-mail address removed) on behalf of (e-mail address removed)' my ISP (domain1)
mail server has no idea that I have multiple mail accounts thus it had to be
sent from Outlook or a rogue program on the client.

I will explore the topic the best I can; but I strongly believe it's a
Outlook issue. I also plan to install SP1 for Office 2007 just to see if it
"accidently" got fixed :)

I'll keep you updated.

What I absolutely not understand is that we are not only talking about "Not
read"-replies to SPAM-emails, furthermore about "Not read"-replies to any
e-mails also internal in company.

In some cases without message or warning Outlook 2007 sends a bunch of "Not
read"-replies to some people. The main problem in our company is that all of
them are internal.

Perhaps 80 internal "Not read"-replies are send to collegues. Sometimes 200.
It's annoying.
