My OE6 works, IE6 doesn't

I'm running 98SE with OE6 & IE6 on Broadband via Ethernet.
OE6 sends & recieves emails OK except any graphics show as a box outline
with a red X in top left corners, but I can't get any websites with IE6. I
just get message saying page unobtainable.
I can satisfactorily Ping websites.
Any ideas gratefully recieved, thanks.

Thanks very much for both your replies. (As my first message didn't, and
still hasn't shown on my computer, I re wrote it!)
I will look at the web sites you suggest as soon as I can use a friend's PC.
I can't get onto the Internet still.
