yes, there is a way to open your files. Right click on the document, select
open with and choose notepad. it wont have the same formating but you can
still edit it.

What you are seeing is all of the document format info..

Download and run Open Office 2.2.. this will enable you to pick up on Word
files, but probably not Word 2007 files..

I cannot download any version of microsoft, onto my lab top. becuase of my
windows vista. A warning pops up saying the hardware/software I have on my
computer is more up-to-date than what I want to load. How can I load Windows
Microsoft Word, so I can stop using 'WordPad' and such, to write better?
Plus, the place I got my lab top told me I should already have Microsoft
word in my computer and could be able to use it right away, but I cannot find
it anywhere.

If you have MS Works installed on your laptop, the word processor contained
within it is actually a version of MS Word..

Not neccessarily. IIRC, some versions of Works includes an older version of
Microsoft Word, but not all do.

The OP has a laptop running Vista, so it couldn't be too old.. If MS Works
was included on said laptop by the OEM, it would be version 8 most likely,
which includes MS Word 2002, I think..

Fist off you need to uninstall ms works. Then you should be able to
download/install ms word.
