My folders have been changed to 8Kb icons

Dear,

I had many folders in my hard disk. Three days before, some of the folders
have been changed to an 8Kb and 16Kb icons and when I tried to open them
Windows asked me to select the software, which I want to open the icon with.
Have you ever encountered such a problem? What could be the solution
please?
