My email freezes up when using Outlook 2003, Viruscan Enterprise .

When working from home with a VPN connection through Comcast, I find that my
Outlook 2003 will sometimes freeze up. I have had some success when I
disable On-demand Access in Viruscan, or shutting down and rebooting. This
problem doesn't occur on other ISPs. Of course, Comcast doesn't support
Outlook 2003.

You don't want to disable on-demand or on-access scanning. What you want
to disable is the email scanning.

The solution to my problem was referenced in another post. It was a problem
with Logon Network Security.

Solution: Right click on the server mailbox and choose "Properties". On
the "General" tab, click the "Advanced" button. Choose the "Security" tab
and open the "Logon Network Security" drop-down menu. Choose "Password
Authentication (NTLM)". Then apply, and restart.

Worked like a charm for me.
