Try going into Device Manager, rt click My Computer select Properties then
Hardware then Dev Manager, then choose
Dvd\Cdrom Drives. Rt click your Drive and select Uninstall. Restart and let
WinXP reinstall the drive.

Try going here and downloading both the Firmware and the Litescribe
Software Update. Once downloaded install both.
Install firmware first.

If you can try the drive in another computer that would be a big help.
It may be that the drive went flaky on Dvd's but
can still process CD's.

I had a similar problem a few days ago after I relocated a number of CD-DVD programs to a new directory.

For both my CD & DVD drives, the devices would be listed in My Computer, hardware diags showed that
the drives were ok, the lights would blink, but inserted disks would NOT be read/writable.

Googling the problem eventually got me to this page: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_cd_dvd_fix.htm

Followed the directions and rebooted.

It worked for me. After the reboot, both drives were usable again.

BTW, Doug Knox's site's got lots of good stuff.

Dan.
