My Documents

Some time ago, I created a separate partition and thought I had moved MY
DOCUMENTS folder to the new partition. I subsequently noticed similar MY
DOCUMENT folders in both partitions. Some files were saved to the C:
partition while others to the G: partition. I have operated for months this
way, inconveniently I admit, but would now like to fix this mess. Is it
possible to merge the MY DOCUMENTS folder on C: with the MY DOCUMENTS
folder on G: and if so, how does one ensure that the latest version of each
file is saved without having to go through them individually.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you created a new location for the My Documents folder but you
forgot to tell the Registry about the move. ;-)

You can easily fix this with Tweak UI or help from this article:

How to Change the Default Location of the My Documents Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310147

TweakUI is one utility of the suite of Microsoft Powertoys for Windows XP. It's
a good tool to have.

For Windows XP SP1 or later it can be downloaded from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Regarding the file transfers, if you use Windows Explorer to copy the files
over, it will display a warning when it comes across a file with the same name.
The file date info for both files is shown in this dialog, so you can decide at
that time whether to copy it or not. You may want to test this procedure on a
single file to verify its warning feature.

Thanks for responding. I will redo the move from C: to G:, properly this
time. I was worried about the files but if you say Explorer handles this,
then I should have nothing to worry about.
I appreciate you help. Thanks again.
