My documents folder

When I open up any file or folder in My Documents, I cant access any Word or
Access item. I get "Not responding". However if I open up a blank word doc
and search for the one I want it opens ok. The same for Access. I xan only
assume its the same for any of my XL files. How can this be fixed please?

check your computers "file Extensions & associations", to do this go to -

start/settings/control panel

on the toolbar select Tools/Folder options

on the Folder Options dialog select tab "File Types"

locate the file extension by scrolling down the list, locate "DOC"

select it by clicking it then select Advanced button this with open the

Edit File Type window, this window will display file Actions

the listed actions should be -

Edit
New
Open
Print
Open as Read-Only
Printto

select the "Open" action in the list then select edit button, Action editing
window will open

you should see "Application used to perform action"

this should have the path and the program that opens this file, similar to
below

NOTE: change drive letter used by your computer, in this example drive "C"
is used!

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\WINWORD.EXE" /n /dde

then make sure the checkbox is checked > Use DDE

DDE Message should read -

[REM _DDE_Direct][FileOpen("%1")]

Application:

WinWord

DDE Application Not Running:

this sould be blank

close all windows, restart your computer, then open the word document

little hourglass for, so far, 5 minutes

reboot your computer into safe mode

to boot into safe do the following >

start your computer or start/turn off computer/restart

while rebooting tap the "F8" key, on the next screen arrow up or down and
select
safe mode, login, once in safe mode access folder options dialog
