"My Documents" Directory lost

Current Problem with trying to reinstall "My Documents" directory,
had a directory (e.g.: myname) that was empty.. may have caused "My
Documents" on new os install & "Restore" to be trashed.
(using stomp backup mypc).

QUESTION: is there a way to re-establish "My Documents" Directory, without
starting over? (have had enough probs, pretty hosed up for app to allow
this)..

Using Restore to restore to point day before, did not help.
This is during a new re-install of the operating system, i.e. there are no
files to recover in My Documents. Thanks

Assuming your re-install did not reformat the drive and your documents are
gone. (unless you backed them up elsewhere)

Look in the "Documents & Settings" folder on the "C:" drive and check to see
if there are two folders with your name and then navigate to the "my
documents" folder and see if the files are there. You may see folders named
"myname" & "myname000" for example, if you do "myname" will be the older one
and "myname000" the newer one.

best of luck

not exactly, I am familiar with location; if I can figure out how (if the
case) may need to re-associate directory / repair file allocation? guesse I
will try a chkdsk attmempt. error is: ..\My Documents is not accessable.
Access is denied.

the mulitple directory listing you referred to is not the problem here..
the empty directory issue may be what had happened during trying to install
to:
"original location". status is: My documents (no access); restore of
original backup (using stomp backup mypc), is inaccessable below the first
empty directory that occurred: naturally with my logon name (under doc &
set: got that), but know files are on computer: have a silly mixed up
situation.

I think I understand the situation you mean now. I don't think chkdsk will
help. Are you using XP Home or Pro, if it is Pro then you can do something
called "take ownership". If you are getting a "access denied" message when
you try to access the folder then it is set with the original security
settings from the previous installation. Must admit though if you have XP
Home I don't think you can use "take ownership" so I'm not sure how you go
on there.
Type "take ownership" into Help & Support from the stat menu.

hope that gives you an idea or two
