My data files will not display how many new messages I have.

I have established data files for filtering incoming emails. While I know
there are new emails in my data files (.pst files), there is no number next
to the name of folde to indicate how MANY new emails I have received. When I
tried to select either option of showing how many new items OR how many total
items exist in the folder (right click -> "properties") there is no result,
even when toggling between the two items. Is there some setting to turn this
feature on? My server-based folders have this option turned on successfully,
but not by client-only folders. Thanks.

And you're sure the messages aren't being marked as read somehow, either in
a rule or by being scanned with an antivirus or -spam program?
