"My Computer" is lost

For the 3rd time in a year, when I click on the "My computer" icon on the
desktop a window opens and the flashlight icon keeps going back and forth.
I've rebooted several times, just did a restore to a week ago, with the same
results. Last two instances required a drive reformat. Any one have a better
fix, and/or a cause for this problem.

Not sure what your problem is, but highlight the icon which you have on
desktop now and right click..if you see nothing, delete it and then click
start and then to my computer...right click to send a new shortcut to
desktop.

Hi,

Sometimes this helps: Start/run msconfig, and on the services tab uncheck
the line that loads Windows Image Acquisition. Click apply/ok and reboot.

Rick, I don't think they are going into that..as they stated (flashlight
icon keeps going back and forth) which means searching..they are kind a new
to the PC from what I see.But your idea is a chance..never knew that..learn
something new every day here.

Hi,

I know it sounds like an odd solution, but trust me, I bugged this some time
ago and it may help.

What does that service do exactly, Rick?

Hi,

It's used with camera and scanners. It's not a necessary service for normal
operation.
