My Computer Freezes Period

S

Steve here.

I will be online and working away and visiting different sites and chatting
with friends and sometimes for hours. Sometimes for a few minutes. Then
everything just freezes up! I can't get the taskmngr up I have to press reset
and then turn my computer off for a little while then I can reboot. If I try
to reboot imediately after pressing reset my computer won't even get all the
way booted up? Can anyone give me any suggestions and or help with this? I
would be so grateful. It is starting to drive me stir crazy. I have tried
pretty much every fix it possibility that I can think of? Please help!

Sounds like either 1) overheating, due to faulty or dead ventilation
fans and/or 2) a faulty power supply. A technician can check both for
you. Should you have to replace one or both, you should know that
neither are expensive (<$50 each, unless you want to get fancy.)

How much RAM memory is installed?

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

You should be able to gather more information from Task Manager. With
the Processes tab open select View, Select, Columns and check the boxes
before Peak Memory Usage and Virtual Memory size. What are the figures
for the 6 processes using the largest amounts?

What programmes are you typically using when the problem arises?

Are you leaving your computer on 24/7?

Hope this helps.
