Mutiple email accounts in Outlook 2003 - Aaggh!

E

Ed Adamthwaite

This is driving me nuts!
I have two email accounts on my laptop, AussieInternet for work and Melbpc
for use at home.
When at home I cannot access the AussieInternet smtp server because of
security reasons.
When at work I cannot access the Melbpc smtp server because Melbpc only
accepts smtp messages via it's own modems and intranet.

Outlook's email management with it's Send/Receive settings is clunky and
damned near impossible to understand. On top of that, it just doesn't keep
the settings you require.

When I set AussieInternet to default at work, it keeps trying to send emails
on the Melbpc account and vice versa for the Melbpc account when at home.
If I reply to an email, it always wants to send the email on the wrong smpt
server. I thought that it replied on the smtp server of the account on which
the incoming email was received, but no! It appears to be arbitrarily
choosing which server it sends on. It even tells me in the header bar which
account it wants to send on and there is no way I can find to change it.
Is there a registry setting that I can tweak?

Please, Please Mr Microsoft, why don't you have a setting that allows the
outgoing server/s to be selected. And KEEP that setting until it is changed
again!

Ed Adamthwaite.

You can select the account to send from via the drop-down accounts list.
Outlook tries to send with eh same account it received from. Your problem is
more related to your connection - the inability to send from an unsupported
IP address. Maybe your providers can rectify this problem.

That setting already exists; it's the Accounts button next to the Send
button.

Robert,
Thank you, you've saved the day. My hair follicles had nearly reached escape
velocity.
The "Accounts" button was obscured because Adobe Acrobat had muscled in and
placed their oversize "Attach as Adobe Pdf" button and pushed it off the end
of the Menubar.
I had looked for an "Accounts" button in the Customize dialog, but to no
avail. I have just found it the Standard category of the Email toolbar.
This has been frustrating me for months since starting to use Outlook 2000
and just recently upgrading to 2003.
Thanks again,
You're worth your weight in gold.
Ed.
